Archbishop Pérez to lead annual African Family Heritage Mass in Philadelphia

The African Catholic Community within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will hold its 11th Annual African Family Heritage Mass. The event aims to recognize and celebrate the cultural diversity present among African Catholics in the region.

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, is scheduled to serve as both principal celebrant and homilist at the Mass. The service will take place on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Saint Irenaeus Church located at 7200 Grovers Avenue in Philadelphia.

According to organizers, the Mass will feature multiple languages and reflect a variety of African cultures. Attendees from countries including Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda as well as participants from the United States are expected to be represented.

Participants are invited to wear traditional attire that reflects their country of origin.
