A man in Normal, Illinois has been charged with homicide after allegedly administering mifepristone, an abortion drug, to his pregnant girlfriend without her knowledge at around seven weeks of pregnancy. According to police reports, the woman was found crying in her bathroom surrounded by a significant amount of blood, and the body of her unborn child was discovered in the toilet. The accused reportedly told law enforcement that he wanted his girlfriend to have an abortion and had purchased mifepristone for $50 from a person on campus.
Illinois has seen its abortion rates rise by 13% between 2020 and 2021. Governor JB Pritzker has described Illinois as an “oasis” for abortion access and has worked to expand abortion laws within the state. He has also allocated funds toward repealing protections for unborn children in states with pro-life policies and promoting Illinois’ approach to abortion elsewhere.
This incident follows a recent lawsuit filed in Texas, where a man is accused of covertly giving abortion drugs to another woman by spiking her drink.
Katie Daniel, director of legal affairs & policy counsel for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, issued the following statement:
Separately, Florida and Texas have joined Missouri, Idaho and Kansas in a case challenging the FDA’s likely illegal approval of abortion drugs.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America describes itself as a network comprising over one million pro-life Americans who work toward ending abortion through advocacy and supporting pro-life leaders.
