Funeral arrangements announced for Reverend M. Edmund Hussey

Reverend M. Edmund Hussey died on August 22, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on June 24, 1933, in Sidney, Ohio and baptized at Holy Angels Church in Sidney. Father Hussey completed his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati and pursued philosophy and theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West in Norwood, Ohio. He was ordained as a priest on May 31, 1958, at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral by Archbishop Karl J. Alter.

Father Hussey furthered his education with an M.A. in Latin and an M.Ed. in English from Xavier University and earned a Ph.D. in Historical Theology from Fordham University in New York.

His first assignment began on June 7, 1958, as assistant pro tem at St. Louis Church in Cincinnati and teaching at Elder High School. While continuing his work at Elder High School, he also served as assistant at several Cincinnati churches: St. William Church (appointed August 26, 1958), St. Antoninus Church (appointed August 29, 1963), Our Lady of Grace Church (appointed August 25, 1964), where he later became administrator from April 1968 to January 1969; and St. Augustine Church (appointed March 5, 1969). In June of that year he moved to New York for further study.

On June 1, 1972 Father Hussey joined the faculty of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary with his appointment effective September that year.

He became pastor of St. Paul Church in Yellow Springs on July 15, 1982; then served on the College of Consultors from November 6, 1990 until November 3, 1995.

Father Hussey was appointed pastor of St. Raphael Church in Springfield for six years beginning July 1, 1991; he was reappointed for another six-year term starting July 2, 1997.

He retired from active ministry on July 1, 1998.

The Reception of the Body will take place Friday August 29 at 9:00 a.m., followed by visitation until Mass at St Agatha Church located at 1860 Northam Road Upper Arlington Ohio; Reverend Daniel L Ochs will serve as celebrant and homilist during this time.

The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday August 29 at 11:00 a.m., also at St Agatha Church with Reverend Robert J Farrell as celebrant and Monsignor David R Funk as homilist.

A private committal service will be held later.
