A Mass of Appreciation is scheduled for August 10 at Good Shepherd Church in Louisville to honor the Sisters of Mercy. The sisters have been serving the Archdiocese of Louisville for over 155 years and are now preparing to leave the area.

The Sisters of Mercy arrived in Louisville from St. Louis in 1869, initially working at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Portland. Over the years, they expanded their services to include teaching at parish elementary schools and founding educational institutions such as Mercy Academy in 1885 and Assumption High School in 1955.

Their contributions extended beyond education, involving work with Catholic Charities of Louisville, archdiocesan agencies, jail ministry, and parish ministry. In 2018, they closed the St. Catherine Convent on Tyler Lane, relocating sisters to facilities in Ohio, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

Father John Burke will celebrate the liturgy on August 10, followed by a reception.
