The Fifth Annual Hoover Park Festival is scheduled to take place at Walsh University on Sunday, July 27. The event will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Hoover Park on the University's north campus in North Canton. Organized by the Hoover Historical Center, the festival is free and open to everyone, offering an afternoon filled with educational and community activities.
This year's festival marks a significant milestone, commemorating 175 years since the Hoover family acquired an 82-acre property at Market Avenue and Maple Street in 1850. This land played a crucial role in North Canton's development, initially serving as a family retreat and later hosting The Hoover Company's International Sales Conventions during the 1920s.
At 1:30 p.m., Megan Pellegrino, Director of Museum Studies and Director of the Hoover Historical Center at Walsh University, will present a special historical session in Hoover Hall. Her presentation will feature rare photographs and stories from the estate's past.
The festival offers various activities for all ages, including live music by the Canton Concert Band, food trucks, tours of the Hoover Historical Center, history exhibits from local organizations and libraries, a vintage baseball game, and children's activities.
The Hoover Company was founded in 1870 and became known globally after introducing its first portable electric vacuum in 1908. It was headquartered in North Canton for over a century. The legacy of The Hoover Company is preserved today by the Hoover Historical Center as both a museum and an educational resource for Walsh University's Museum Studies program.
The annual festival has been growing steadily each year, uniting families, alumni, and neighbors to honor innovation, community pride, and local history.
