All are invited to participate in the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln's upcoming book discussion event on June 10 at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward. The evening will focus on "Searching for and Maintaining Peace" by Father Jacques Philippe, with Father Benjamin Holdren leading the presentation.
The book discussion is part of a series that includes talks by diocesan priests on four books by Father Philippe. The series began in April with Father Jay Buhman discussing "Time for God" in Holdrege.
Father Philippe's work emphasizes spiritual growth through peace of the soul, aligning with the diocese's Jubilee Year themes of mercy, hope, and joy. According to Father Holdren, “Underlying ‘Searching for and Maintaining Peace’ is a disposition of becoming more and more childlike.” He added that peace is essential for receiving Jesus' help and passing it on to others.
The One Book + One Diocese initiative celebrates the Jubilee Year. Father Holdren noted, “I have never met a peaceful person who’s not joyful," highlighting the connection between peace and joy as discussed in Philippe's book.
The event at St. Gregory the Great Seminary will start at 7 p.m. and last about an hour, including refreshments. Other discussions are planned for Aug. 26 in David City with Father Adam Sughroue on "Fire & Light," and Nov. 21 in Lincoln featuring Father Ryan Kaup on "Interior Freedom." These events will also be streamed live via the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln YouTube channel.
Attendees do not need to read the book beforehand but may find it helpful as discussions provide context for further reading or re-reading.
Books from the One Book + One Diocese program can be purchased individually or as a bundle from Gloria Deo in Lincoln.
