This June, drivers on Interstate 80 and residents of Lincoln and Omaha may notice new billboards featuring the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This initiative is a listener-led effort by Spirit Catholic Radio to share messages of love, hope, and faith.

“This campaign came straight from the hearts of our listeners,” stated Jim Carroll, executive director of Spirit Catholic Radio. “They had the desire to share Christ’s love more publicly, and they made it happen through prayer and generous support.”

For Catholics, each month has a specific devotion or saint focus for prayer and reflection. June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Sacred Heart symbolizes God's love, particularly Jesus' love for humanity. It is depicted as a heart on fire, pierced and surrounded by thorns. For Christians, this image represents Jesus' compassion, suffering, and unconditional love for all people. It serves as a reminder that God's mercy is real and available to everyone.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart dates back centuries within Christianity. Saints like St. Gertrude the Great and St. Margaret Mary Alacoque have described deep spiritual experiences with this symbol as one of peace, mercy, and transformation. Today it remains a sign of comfort for millions worldwide.

The billboards will be visible throughout June in high-traffic areas such as I-80 in Omaha and Lincoln metro areas. Thousands will see these daily while commuting or traveling during summer vacations.

“We hope these billboards spark curiosity,” said Jim Carroll. “Even if someone isn’t familiar with the Sacred Heart, we want them to know: this love is for you too.”
