Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
As the summer approaches, the Diocese of Wichita is set to distribute grants from a newly established fund, resulting from its One Family, Fully Alive in Christ! Campaign. The fund is created to support outreach by parishes and other Catholic organizations within the diocese.
More than 7,000 donors contributed to the campaign, raising $50 million. Of this, $5 million is dedicated to the In Love of God and Neighbor Fund. This fund, although not a permanent endowment, will be managed responsibly and maintain regular distributions through a grant program.
Pastors can start applying for grants up to $5,000 from May. The grant funds will enhance or establish outreach projects, aimed at assisting local communities. Distribution is planned biannually, in July and January, with an allocation of at least $100,000 per cycle.
“This new fund opens a door that we didn’t think we would have the key for,” says Fr. Jorge Lopez from St. Patrick, Wichita. He mentions the potential impact on ministries like The Lord’s Pantry, which helps local residents.
The fund is aimed not only at creating new projects but also at expanding current efforts, such as those run by St. Anthony in Garden Plain and Sacred Heart Parish in Fredonia. Initiatives include supplying cribs for expectant mothers and distributing essentials like diapers and clothing.
Across the diocese, leaders express gratitude. The fund is expected to address issues such as mental health, hunger, and homelessness. The focus is on local-level support and fostering a sense of community through helping neighbors.
The campaign is nearing completion, but the ongoing support from the fund marks a long-term commitment to aid the community. More information on the campaign and donation options can be found at their website OneFamilyFullyAlive.org. Heralding a new chapter for the Diocese, the fund is set to provide continuous support for years to come.
