Diverse community events to be hosted by Louisville Archdiocese in April

The Archdiocese of Louisville is gearing up for the Chrism Mass to be conducted by Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre on April 15 at the Cathedral of the Assumption. The ceremony, scheduled at 7 p.m., involves the blessing and consecration of the oil of the sick, oil of the catechumens, and sacred chrism. These oils will be used throughout the coming year in the archdiocese. Priests will also take part in concelebration and renewal of their priestly promises. A reception will follow.

Holy Week will feature live Stations of the Cross at various parishes. The "Way of the Cross: A Walk for Justice" annual procession is planned for Good Friday, April 18, in downtown Louisville, starting at 9:30 a.m. from the Romano Mazzoli Federal Building and concluding near the cathedral. St. William and Epiphany churches are among the participating sponsors.

Christ the King Church is scheduled to hold its final Mass on April 27, incorporating a reception afterward. Meanwhile, St. Athanasius Church will mark Divine Mercy Sunday on April 27 with a program beginning at 2 p.m.

The Ursuline Sisters of Louisville will offer a Taizé prayer on April 14 at 7 p.m. For more details, interested individuals can contact them directly. The St. Serra Club of Louisville will have a luncheon meeting on April 21, featuring Seminarian Harrison Frey speaking about his vocation journey. The Young Catholic Professionals of Louisville Chapter will host a "Happy and Holy Hour" on April 22, commencing with a Holy Hour at St. Brigid Church.

The Holy Cross Early Childhood Center will have an open house on April 15. Set to open in August 2025, the center will cater to children ages six weeks to three years.

Support groups for mental health and grief are scheduled across various churches, offering spaces for community and healing.

St. Francis Xavier Church’s Women's Club and Most Blessed Sacrament Church’s Ladies Altar Society have bunco events planned later in April. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold their Roses & Rosé brunch on April 27 to support their Domestic Violence Transitional Housing Program.

A series of other events, including blood drives, volunteer opportunities, and educational programs, are set across the community.

Library and art enthusiasts have the chance to visit St. Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery for an exhibit by painter Mary Ann Michna. Discussions on church teachings, sleep improvement, and community gatherings are among the diverse activities arranged for April.
