The Archdiocese of Louisville is planning a series of events and activities in the lead-up to Holy Week. One of the highlighted events, the Chrism Mass, will be celebrated by Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre on April 15 at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption. During the mass, various holy oils will be blessed and consecrated for use throughout the coming year around the archdiocese.
The Cathedral of the Assumption will also host Stations of the Cross on April 11 at 7:30 p.m., incorporating poetry by Paul Claudel and organ music by Marcel Dupré. Before the main event, a simple meal of vegetarian soup and bread will be served at 6 p.m. in the undercroft, with a suggested $5 donation.
Catholic Cemeteries has organized the Way of the Cross for Young Christians at St. Michael Cemetery on April 11 at 1 p.m., led by Holy Trinity School students. St. Margaret Mary Church and Epiphany Church will conduct Easter basket blessings on April 19, with specific times for each location.
The Ursuline Sisters of Louisville will offer a Taizé prayer session on April 14 at their Motherhouse Chapel. In addition, several support groups, including those for families dealing with mental illness and grief, will convene throughout the month at different area churches.
Community events include the Queen’s Daughters annual fashion show on April 10 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, with proceeds supporting a scholarship program. St. Edward Church will hold a blood drive the same day, welcoming both appointments and walk-ins.
Several educational and support events are scheduled, such as a workshop on immigration hosted by Ascension Church on April 8, and a seminar on church teaching about euthanasia at St. Bernadette Church on April 10-11.
Finally, Catholic Charities of Louisville will provide an estate planning information session on April 9, featuring elder law attorney Cheryl Bruner as the facilitator. Though attendance is free, pre-registration is required due to limited seating.
