The Catholic Diocese of Lincoln is reintroducing its "One Book + One Diocese" program for the Jubilee Year of Hope in 2025. This year, the program will feature four short books by Father Jacques Philippe, one for each quarter. Each book reading will culminate in a discussion evening with reflections from a priest, held in various locations throughout the diocese.

Jeff Schinstock, director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis, and Dennis Kellogg, director of the Office of Communications, are coordinating the initiative. They will also participate in local presentations and lead discussions that will be available via livestream or recording for those unable to attend.

Schinstock emphasized the importance of prayer and relationships during this period. "The jubilee year is a time for us to re-establish relationships with each other and with God," he stated. "It’s a great time to come together as a diocese and work together on deepening our prayer lives."

Kellogg noted that alongside this program, an ongoing diocesan initiative aims to deepen understanding of the Catholic faith. He said that "One Book + One Diocese" supports this goal by offering spiritual enrichment through selected readings.

“Our ‘Prepare and Proclaim: Enriching our Mass Experience’ program calls us to draw even closer to God before, during and after Mass,” Kellogg mentioned. The chosen books are described as “classics that will enrich our spiritual life.”

Father Jacques Philippe is known internationally for his writings on spirituality, having sold over a million copies across 24 languages. The first book in this year's series is "Time for God," which addresses principles for cultivating a healthy prayer life.

The first discussion event will feature Father Jay Buhman at All Saints Parish in Holdrege on March 28. Subsequent books include “Searching for and Maintaining Peace,” discussed by Father Benjamin Holdren on June 13; “Fire and Light: Learning to Receive the Gift of God,” with reflections by Father Adam Sughroue on August 16; and “Interior Freedom” led by Father Ryan Kaup on November 21.

Bishop James Conley has chosen these works for their educational value. Schinstock praised Father Philippe's expertise in spiritual matters: “Jacques Philippe is a master in the spiritual life...He’s guided so many to deeper relationships with our Lord.”

The featured books can be purchased individually or as a bundle from Gloria Deo Bookstore in Lincoln or online.
