President Trump has signed an executive order to stop federal funding for K-12 schools that incorporate "discriminatory equity ideology" and gender ideology into their curriculum. This directive also mandates a plan from various federal agencies to end indoctrination in educational institutions and safeguard parental rights. Additionally, it reinstates the 1776 Commission to encourage patriotic education.
Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project (APP), expressed support for the president's decision. He stated, “It is no hyperbole to say that America’s public education system is a disaster." Schilling attributed this situation to "years of terrible policy, driven by left-wing activists and teachers unions," citing poor performance in basic reading and math levels among eighth graders as evidence.
Schilling criticized the continued focus on policies he believes have exacerbated the crisis in education, including spending on DEI consultants and promoting ideologies such as critical race theory and radical gender theory. He also mentioned the impact of school lockdowns during COVID-19 as contributing factors.
He further remarked, “What has happened in American education is a travesty that calls for a powerful and decisive response.” Schilling praised President Trump for his actions, stating that the executive order signals an end to tolerating what he perceives as failures within schools. He emphasized that taxpayer dollars should be used for genuine education rather than teaching discrimination or confusing students about biology.
Schilling concluded by thanking President Trump for fulfilling his campaign promise and expressed anticipation in working with his administration to ensure effective implementation of the order.
