Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre has announced the appointment of Very Reverend Philip L. Erickson as an adjutant judicial vicar for the Metropolitan Tribunal of Louisville, effective October 10. This new role will be in addition to his responsibilities as pastor at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, and St. Therese of Lisieux Church.
Father Erickson is a Louisville native who was ordained on May 27, 1995. His education includes major seminary at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Indiana and further studies at St. Paul University in Ottawa, Canada, where he earned a master's degree and licentiate in canon law.
His previous roles include serving as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and administrator at St. Thomas More Church. He also served as an associate pastor at St. Raphael Church and a sacramental moderator at St. John the Baptist Church in Brandenburg, Kentucky. Additionally, he has been a chaplain at DeSales High School, a guest instructor at Spalding University, and a presider for Mass of the Air.
Father Erickson is part of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem (Knights of the Holy Sepulchre), which supports the Catholic Church's mission in the Holy Land.
In his service to the archdiocese, Father Erickson has previously held positions such as adjutant judicial vicar for The Metropolitan Tribunal of Louisville, member of the Planning Commission, representative on the Priests’ Council, and president of the Priests’ Council.
