Anne Gill, a 2022 graduate of the Ph.D. in Literacy program at The School of Education, has recently published an article in the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy. The piece, titled “The Instructional Implications of a Critical Media Literacy Framework and Podcasts in a High School Classroom,” was coauthored with Olivia G. Stewart, Assistant Professor in Education Specialties at The School of Education.
Gill and Stewart discussed their work on a podcast called "Podcasts and Critical Media Literacy with Drs. Anne Gill and Olivia Stewart." Currently, Dr. Gill serves as an Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education at West Chester University. She is in her second year with the Department of Secondary Education and the Health and Physical Education Department, working closely with preservice teacher candidates who aim to teach social studies at the secondary level.
In Fall 2024, Dr. Gill conducted research on how student teachers addressed teaching middle and high school students about the 2024 election. Her interest lies in using podcasts as an instructional tool, with plans to extend her research to higher education settings. Dr. Gill continues to collaborate with Dr. Stewart on exploring critical digital literacy practices within classrooms.
