On September 19, 2024, a letter was issued addressing the faithful, reflecting on the Psalmist's declaration from the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time: “The Lord upholds my life.” The letter encourages introspection on whether individuals truly rely on God as the center of their lives.
The message emphasizes that God calls people out of selfishness into selfless love for others. It highlights that actions done for others are acts done for God. "Jesus walks in our door every day; as we are a dwelling place of God," it states. The letter suggests that if one knew Jesus was visiting their home, they would welcome Him warmly and offer their best. This analogy extends to everyday interactions with family, friends, and acquaintances who represent Jesus.
Receiving the Eucharist is described as transformative, meant to align believers with Jesus' vision, thoughts, and love. St. Leo the Great is quoted: “Christian, recognize your dignity... Remember who is your head and of whose body you are a member.” This quote underscores the importance of living deliberately as children of God.
St. James poses a critical question about what divides people or keeps them apart, attributing such divisions to false idols and neglecting God's teachings. The letter urges embracing gentleness and openness akin to welcoming a child and adopting Jesus’ way of wisdom and holiness.
Pope Francis' call to be missionaries of Christ’s love is reiterated. He encourages making personal lives an offering to God so that Jesus may be better known, loved, and served. The Pope asks believers to bring hope to those they encounter by being witnesses of compassion and merciful love.
The letter concludes with an invitation to attend the annual Blue Mass on Monday, September 30th at St. James Cathedral in Orlando from noon to 1:30 p.m., dedicated to praying for public safety personnel.
