Three priests retire after decades serving Louisville parishes

Three priests of the Archdiocese of Louisville are retiring this summer after decades of service to local parishes, presiding over numerous sacraments during their tenures.

Father Terry L. Bradshaw, 70, retired on June 19 from the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky., where he was ordained 44 years ago. Father Bradshaw was born in Texas and raised in Marion County, Ky. He attended St. Augustine School in Lebanon, Marion County High School, Bellarmine University, and St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore. Ordained on May 31, 1980, he served as associate pastor at St. Martha Church and St. Joseph in Bardstown before becoming pastor of St. Bartholomew Church from 1987 to 1999. He later served at St. Athanasius Church from 1999 to 2010 and at St. Bernadette Church from 2010 to 2015, overseeing the construction of the parish church in Norton Commons completed in 2013.

In 2015, Father Bradshaw became pastor of St. Michael Church in Fairfield until 2017 and subsequently returned to serve as pastor of St. Joseph until his retirement. He was appointed to the Priests’ Council of the archdiocese in 2017 and has been a consultor since 2018 while also serving as a chaplain at Mercy Academy and Presentation Academy.

Father David W. Harris, also aged 70, retired on June 19 after an unconventional path to priesthood that began with his studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and service as a Baptist minister before converting to Catholicism with his wife Pam under a special provision for former Protestant ministers.

He attended St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology and was ordained on Sept. 6, 2008. Post-ordination, Father Harris served as assistant to the pastor at St. Aloysius Church in Pewee Valley before being appointed administrator of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish along with clustered parishes such as St Elizabeth Hungary & Saint Therese In Pewee Valley KY In His Leadership They formed Pax Christi Collaborative
