Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., has issued a statement regarding the recent shooting in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He called on the faithful of the Archdiocese of Newark and all people of good will to join him in prayer for the recovery of former President Donald Trump and all victims affected by the incident.

"May the family of the deceased and wounded find consolation and hope, and may this outrage lead us, as Americans, to denounce all forms of political and gun violence and the rhetoric that incites it," said Cardinal Tobin. He concluded his statement with a call for intercession: "Mary Immaculate, Mother of God and Patroness of the United States of America, pray for us."
