Two years ago, a significant event unfolded in the United States. On June 24, 2022, after nearly five decades of abortion on demand, the Supreme Court ruled that there is no constitutional right to an abortion. This decision returned the authority to enact legal protections for the preborn to individual states.

The overturning of this precedent was surprising to many and marked a day of profound hope and joy within the pro-life community. For almost 50 years, this landmark decision faced widespread protest until it was finally overturned. Many who grew up with Roe v. Wade as the law of the land or remembered its original ruling on January 22, 1973, believed they would never witness its reversal in their lifetime.

Last year, Nebraska Right to Life commemorated the first anniversary of this decision with a free family-centered event open to the public. The organization will host this event again, inviting all pro-life supporters and their families to celebrate life and acknowledge the lives saved by this ruling.

On Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., pro-life supporters are invited to Antelope Park’s Shildneck Bandshell in Lincoln for a day of celebration. The event will feature local food trucks, a Christian band, carnival games, face painting, balloon animals, a raffle with prizes, and yard games for adults. Admission is free.

Nebraska Right to Life has addressed inquiries about moving the Nebraska Walk for Life to summer months now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned. However, they have decided against it. "We remember and pray for the lives lost to abortion," stated a representative from Nebraska Right to Life. Each year around January's anniversary date of Roe v. Wade's original decision in 1973—marked by pink and blue balloons—the organization commemorates babies lost to abortion.

While celebrating last year's Supreme Court decision remains important for Nebraska Right to Life members and supporters alike: "It is also where real work begins in Nebraska," emphasized another spokesperson from Nebraska Right To Life; pressing forward towards protecting women babies families within state lines reminding them our work isn't finished until all life respected moment starts natural end
