Revered Carl A. Kemme, D.D. Bishop | Diocese of Witchita
Bishop Carl A. Kemme recently celebrated a decade of service to the Diocese of Wichita. The occasion was marked with a Mass on Wednesday, May 1, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, attended by numerous priests from the diocese and Chancery employees. A reception followed in Good Shepherd Hall.
Reflecting on his tenure, Bishop Kemme stated, "A lot has been packed into 10 busy, full, and happy years." He spoke fondly of the many people he has come to know throughout his service and expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had to grow in prayer and faith.
The bishop also took this opportunity to ask for forgiveness for any mistakes made along his journey. He expressed hope that God would continue to provide him with strength, energy, and good health so he could continue serving.
Looking forward, Bishop Kemme revealed plans to serve the diocese until he turns 75 years old - at which point he will be required to submit his resignation to the pope. "Until then I pray that I'll continue to be your bishop and continue the path forward," he said.
During his homily, Bishop Kemme requested prayers from the faithful of the diocese. He said, "I truly need them, perhaps now more than ever before." He thanked everyone for their support and commitment to their faith.
Following the Mass, a reception was held in Good Shepherd Hall where Very Rev. David Lies praised Bishop Kemme's leadership over the past decade. Father Lies highlighted Bishop Kemme's affability and genuineness as some of his key attributes that have endeared him to those under his care.
Father Lies concluded by expressing hope that Bishop Kemme would have another 12 years with them and that they would be able to support him in leaving the flock in better condition than when he found it.
