More than 350 supporters attended the 30th annual “Lourdes Event” benefit for Lourdes Central Catholic in Nebraska City. Father Jonathan Haschke, the chief administrative officer at Lourdes, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, "The annual event serves as a way to celebrate the school’s traditions, students, faculty and staff, while also raising funds that help ensure a Catholic education is accessible to families in Nebraska City and surrounding areas."
The event, organized by the school’s advancement office and a planning committee of over 25 volunteers, raised more than $172,000 in support of Catholic education. Additionally, $10,665 was collected to update the middle school and high school restrooms as part of the school’s Fund-a-Need Project.
Father Steven Mills, the emcee for the evening and a 2001 graduate of Lourdes Central, shared his experiences at the school and the positive impact it had on his life. He was assisted by auctioneer Mark Easter during the event. Father Mills expressed gratitude to the attendees, donors, and sponsors, stating, "We are tremendously grateful for all our sponsors, donors and everyone who worked so hard to make this event a success. These faithful supporters are part of our family that make Lourdes so special."
The evening featured various activities such as a social hour, dinner, raffle drawings, silent auction, and a live grand auction. Guests engaged in wine-themed activities including wine tasting, a wine pull game, and a grape stomp. A virtual silent auction site was also launched prior to the event, allowing individuals to bid on auction items remotely. The live grand auction included unique packages like a Husker volleyball fan experience and a guided pheasant hunt with Father Jonathan Haschke, which collectively raised $53,100.
The success of the 30th annual “Lourdes Event” underscored the strong community support for Catholic education in Nebraska City and the dedication of individuals to ensure its accessibility and growth.
