Iona University Earns National Recognition at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Media Awards Ceremony

Iona University's student-operated radio station, WIUR, received national recognition at the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Media Awards ceremony in New York City. The event honored excellence in student radio broadcasting, with Iona students being named finalists in the Best Podcast and Best Sports Talk Program categories.

Giuseppe D’Aloisio, director of digital technology & learning in the Media & Strategic Communication department at Iona University, expressed pride in the students' accomplishments, stating, “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements. Being named finalists at the IBS Media Awards speaks to their talent and dedication.”

Niamh Linehan, cohost of “Hypothetically Speaking,” shared her excitement about the nomination, saying, “I was shocked when I heard the news that we got nominated but, it was a great feeling. It proved what we are producing has potential to go far and it even made a positive impact on someone to be nominated for an award.” She also credited the support of the media & strategic communication department, especially Professor D’Aloisio, for their success.

Kaeli Dean, another student involved in the award-winning podcast, expressed her enthusiasm for continuing podcasting beyond graduation, stating, “I think it would be fun to continue podcasting. I’ve enjoyed doing it this past year and would love for it to last longer.”

The success of the students at the IBS Media Awards has not only highlighted their talent but also showcased the support and opportunities provided by Iona University's media & strategic communication department.
