Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville
More than 60 individuals attended the annual Archdiocese of Louisville Faith Club Retreat at Ascension Church on March 9. The Faith Club provides faith formation for adults with developmental disabilities. The event centered on the upcoming National Eucharistic Revival, as announced by the Office of Faith Formation.
Father Robert Barnell, Ascension’s pastor, began the day with prayer, setting the tone for a day filled with spiritual reflection. The highlight of the retreat was a discussion on the Eucharist and a Mass presided over by Father John Burke.
Laura Zoeller, a consultant for adult faith formation and initiation, shared insights from the discussions, saying, “We spoke about the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and how it is not the same as regular food we eat.” She added, “We also compared a meal we have at home as a family to the meal we have with our church family. Both are holy in their own way because God is with us.”
In addition to the discussions and Mass, participants engaged in a creative activity by making a craft - a monstrance - to take home as a reminder of their spiritual journey.
Faith Clubs, including the one at the Flaget Retreat Center, St. Thomas Church in Bardstown, Ky., Ascension, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Francis of Assisi churches, provide a regular meeting place for members to deepen their faith.
The Office of Faith Formation is actively seeking volunteers to support these clubs or establish new ones. For those interested in getting involved, please contact the office at 636-0296.
