ORLANDO | The Diocese of Orlando welcomed back Father Kenneth Gill, who recently incardinated into his home diocese with a deep sense of connection, stating, "to the diocese of my birth." Father Gill, who spent over two decades working outside the clergy, felt a strong calling back to the priesthood after a visit home and rediscovering the practice of praying the rosary. Reflecting on this moment, he shared, "It had been 20 years since I prayed a rosary."
After receiving what he described as "the sign," Father Gill returned to central Florida to be closer to his family and began his service as the rector of Basilica of St. Paul in Daytona Beach. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, he remarked, "It is a great joy for me and for my family to return to the soil of my birth, hopefully for as long as God wills, to serve the beautiful people of God here."
During his time at the basilica, Father Gill emphasized the importance of spiritual renewal and allowing God to guide his path, stating, “It’s been a real season of renewal. I am trying not to lead the Lord, but allowing the Lord to lead me.” He also highlighted the community's involvement in serving others, saying, “We are really going through this time of renewal, engaging and allowing people to exercise their baptismal call to be priest, prophet and king in service to the community.”
Father Gill's vision for the basilica is encapsulated in its new motto, “A beacon of light and an ocean of mercy,” as he aims to create a space where individuals can experience God’s healing and mercy, ultimately finding their way back to the Church.
