The U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly approved the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, with a bipartisan vote of 352-65 and one member voting present on March 13, 2024.
In response to the bill's passage, Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project (APP), expressed his support, stating, “It is good to see that both parties can still agree on some obviously necessary actions. The influence of social media on our society—and especially our youngest generations—is undeniable at this point. It is insane that we would allow a foreign competitor like the Chinese Communist Party to have such significant control over a platform that shapes the views of so many Americans. Breaking the link between the CCP and powerful apps like TikTok is clearly in our nation’s best interest, and APP applauds the House for taking this important step. We also urge the Senate to take up and pass this bill as soon as possible.”
