Rev. James D. Conley, D.D., S.T.L. | Diocese of Lincoln website
Bishop James Conley recently visited the JPII Newman Center in Omaha to speak with college students about the importance of rediscovering truth, goodness, and beauty in their academic pursuits and personal lives. The Bishop's talk was part of the Mission Leadership Summit, a monthly dinner and speaker gathering of intentional student leaders.
During his visit, Bishop Conley shared his personal journey of conversion to Catholicism and emphasized the significance of forming meaningful friendships that can shape one's life trajectory. He also discussed his struggles with mental health, encouraging students to authentically live out their faith and be a source of hope and joy for others.
Father Dan Andrews, pastor and director of the center, praised the bishop's talk, stating that it was well-received by the students. He highlighted Bishop Conley's message of staying close to Jesus and the Church, especially during challenging times in college.
Reflecting on his time with the students, Bishop Conley expressed his admiration for their enthusiasm, hope, joy, and strong Catholic identity. He encouraged them to maintain a sense of wonder in their hearts as they navigate through the ups and downs of life.
The JPII Newman Center, which serves students from various institutions of higher learning, offers a range of activities including Bible studies, guest speakers, daily Mass, and service trips. Father Andrews described the center as a place for any college student, with some residing in the residential facility on-site.
Overall, Bishop Conley's visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their faith, friendships, and personal growth during their college years.
