Walsh University has announced its plans for the upcoming 2024 Commencement Ceremonies, set to take place on Saturday, May 4, 2024. A special highlight of the event will be the return of Willis “Bill” Rambo ’64, the first registered student at Walsh University, who will deliver the Commencement Address and receive an Honorary Doctorate of Business.
In a statement, Bill Rambo expressed his gratitude and excitement about returning to his alma mater, saying, “I am deeply honored to return to Walsh University as the 2024 Commencement Speaker. My experiences at Walsh, particularly the mentorship of the Brothers, have profoundly shaped my life and career. I look forward to sharing my reflections and insights with the graduating class as they embark on their own journeys.”
Rambo, who had a successful career in the property/casualty insurance business after graduating in 1964, has maintained a close relationship with Walsh University over the years. Along with his wife, Trina Rambo, the couple has made significant contributions to the university, including the establishment of the Rambo Family Advanced Nursing Lab, The Rambo Family Endowed Scholarship, and the Trina Rambo R.N., Dean’s Chair of the Byers School of Nursing.
The Rambo family's impact on Walsh University's growth and development extends beyond financial contributions. They also initiated the Rambo Global Health Scholars Program, aimed at providing students with opportunities to explore diverse healthcare landscapes through global experiences. Furthermore, in 2020, the family contributed to infrastructure upgrades with the Bill Rambo Admissions Center, showcasing their commitment to supporting the next generation of Walsh University students and upholding the school's mission and values.
During the 2024 Commencement Ceremonies, members of the original 47 graduates from the Class of 1964 will be recognized, along with the Brothers of Christian Instruction, the university's founding order. The ceremonies will be divided into two sessions, with specific times allocated for graduates of different schools within the university.
The event will also include a Baccalaureate Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel, providing a spiritual dimension to the day's celebrations.
