Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville

Father John Schwartzlose, director of mission at Catholic Charities of Louisville, will be leading hour-long presentations in the Archdiocese of Louisville next month. The focus will be on two themes of Catholic social teaching: the life and dignity of the human person and the call to family, community, and participation.

According to Father Schwartzlose, the presentations will delve into how individuals can take their beliefs and teachings into the world, emphasizing the importance of human dignity and active participation. He stated, “It is an invitation to go out and spread the Good News.”

The presentation will explore questions such as, "What does it look like when human dignity is respected?" and "What would it look like if people in the archdiocese lived this not just in Lent, but in regular life?"

Father Schwartzlose expressed his belief that practicing Catholic social teaching more regularly could have a significant impact on the world. He mentioned, "If social teaching were practiced more regularly or with more conscientious input, we could really change the world in more ways than we already are."

If the initial presentations receive positive feedback, Catholic Charities of Louisville plans to continue the series by covering the other themes of Catholic social teaching, such as rights and responsibilities, option for the poor and vulnerable, the dignity of work and the rights of workers, solidarity, and care for God’s creation.

The presentations are part of a new campaign by Catholic Charities of Louisville called “People Up,” aimed at encouraging individuals to become more involved in their work.

The scheduled presentations aim to bring awareness to the principles of Catholic social teaching and inspire individuals to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
