Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre presided over this year's Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion ceremony at St. Peter the Apostle Church, where he addressed 201 elect and 166 candidates who are preparing to enter the Catholic Church at or near Easter. During the ceremony, Archbishop Fabre highlighted the significance of the word "elect" in the church compared to its secular definition.

Reflecting on the term "elect," Archbishop Fabre emphasized, "One who is elected is one who has been chosen." He clarified that the concept of being chosen in the church is distinct from the secular understanding of voting, stating, "You have not been chosen because you have received more votes, but more importantly you have been chosen by God."

Kaitlynn Slone, a candidate from St. Bernard Church, shared her journey to Catholicism, expressing her anticipation of participating in the Eucharist. Slone mentioned, "I yearn for it so much," highlighting her eagerness to engage in this sacrament.

Chris Lussier, the pastoral associate at St. Edward Church, expressed his excitement over the significant number of individuals preparing to join the church. Lussier, who is guiding 35 catechumens and candidates through the process, emphasized the joy of witnessing people rediscover Christ and the church.

Butch and Denise Daugherty, members of St. Michael Church, attended the ceremony as sponsors for their nephew who is joining the church this year. Butch Daugherty commented on the importance of welcoming new members, stating, "It's bringing more young people to the Church." The Daughertys encouraged fellow Catholics to provide support to the elect and candidates, emphasizing the wealth of history and knowledge within the Church.

As more than 350 individuals prepare to enter the Catholic Church, Archbishop Fabre and the community are united in their commitment to guiding and supporting these new members through their spiritual journey.
