Walsh University is organizing a mental health symposium aimed at addressing the challenges faced by young people and adolescents. The event, which is free of charge, will be held on February 23rd at the Barrette Business and Community Center. The symposium is open to mental health professionals, community partners, as well as Walsh faculty, staff, coaches, and students. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and can earn four contact hours.

One of the highlights of the symposium is a panel discussion featuring industry experts who will share their insights and strategies for promoting social and emotional wellness. The opening address will be delivered by Quebec Gibbins, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with the State of Ohio. Gibbins, who holds a Master of Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling from Walsh University, will speak on "The Process of Discovering Your Unique Footprint in the World of Mental Health." He has extensive experience working with diverse clientele, including adults, adolescents, and children.

Another speaker at the symposium is Autumn Brown, a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in addiction, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. Brown, who also holds a Master of Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling from Walsh University, will present on "Current Issues Facing Adolescents and the Impact on Well-Being." She has a strong background in working with women, students, and individuals with dual diagnoses.

The keynote address, titled "Beyond the Breakdown: Unraveling and Rebuilding the Self," will be given by Cyrus Ausar, a renowned expert in depression and suicide prevention. Ausar, who has overcome personal adversity, is the owner of the award-winning mental health café "Greatness Café." He has also raised millions of dollars for non-profit organizations and has been recognized with several humanitarian awards.

The symposium is organized by Walsh University's Occupational Therapy and Counseling and Human Development Programs. It has been made possible through a HRSA funded BHWET program from a Region V University. The program is supported by grant number M01HP42008-01-00 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

This mental health symposium is a valuable opportunity for mental health professionals, community partners, and members of the Walsh University community to come together and address the pressing issues affecting youth and young adults. By sharing knowledge, strategies, and experiences, the symposium aims to contribute to the well-being and resilience of the next generation.
