The Diocese of Toledo invites the faithful to join Bishop Daniel E. Thomas by attending the diocesan kickoff Mass for the National Eucharistic Revival on Sunday.

“The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, (Corpus Christi), Sunday, June 19, 2022, begins a three-year National Eucharistic Revival called for by the Bishops of the United States,” the diocese posted on Facebook

The first year is a diocesan year, and a local Eucharistic Revival team will discuss ideas for parishes to implement in the second year, the parish year, the diocese elaborated.

"The mission and vision of this Eucharistic Revival overflows with hope for a life-changing experience of the Holy Eucharist—especially of the Mass—in the lives of all Catholics,” the diocese’s post said.

The Eucharistic Revival is described as “a grassroots movement of Catholics, each responding to the gift of the Eucharist in their own way" by EucharisticRevival.org. To help Catholics spiritually prepare for the Revival, novenas have been held across the country from June 10-18.

"It's our mission to renew the Church by enkindling in God's people a living relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist," Bishop Andrew Cozzens, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis, said in a video, adding that the National Eucharistic Revival is "central to the mission of the Church in the United States right now.”

"We want everyone to encounter the love of Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist and to experience the life-changing effects of that love,” he continued. “We want to see a movement of Catholics across the United States that are healed, converted, formed, and unified by an encounter with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and then sent out on mission for the life of the world."

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi, or the Body of Christ, is a celebration of thanksgiving for the Eucharist, or Holy Communion, according to Office Holidays. The feast day dates to before the 13th century, at which time it gained popularity. It is celebrated with a Eucharistic procession, which includes a priest carrying the Eucharist in a monstrance and walking through the streets.
