Kathy Neugebauer has concluded her 16-year tenure as facilitator of the Marian Mantle Silent Strength Prayer Group at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ Parish in Lincoln. Since 2009, Neugebauer led the group, which supports individuals praying for loved ones who have left the Catholic faith. Despite stepping down from her leadership role, Neugebauer plans to continue attending prayer gatherings.
“I’m still coming to our twice-a-month prayer gatherings and will always, always pray for our prodigals and believe in our Lord’s will,” said Neugebauer. “Hope is never ending!”
The Marian Mantle lay apostolate was founded by Mary Ann Gardner of Kansas. The groups are dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and seek her intercession for those who have left the practice of their faith.
Bob McDonald, a member of St. Patrick Parish in Lincoln, has taken over as facilitator. “I have been a part of the Marian Mantle group for only a short time, so it’s quite intimidating to take over from Kathy,” McDonald said. “Her devotion to this ministry is remarkable and inspiring. We’re so grateful to her.”
McDonald noted that joining the group has provided support as he prays for his own loved ones who no longer practice their faith. “I had been searching for an outlet for my worries about my loved ones who are no longer practicing, or perhaps just adrift,” he said. “It helps to know others who are facing the same situation, and it’s even more helpful to join our prayers together as we ask for Our Lady’s intercession.”
The group meets at Rectors Hall in the Cathedral at 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday each month. Meetings include recitation of the Divine Mercy chaplet and rosary, along with petitions and other prayers. There are no dues or commitments required, and names of those being prayed for are not recorded. Mass follows at 5 p.m. at the Cathedral located at 3500 Sheridan Blvd.
