When Daisy Ramos saw the Catholic procession staged by Unite Our Nation in Wisconsin on Aug. 15, it inspired and touched her so deeply that she decided to organize a procession and patriotic rosary in her hometown of Miami.
"It was the boldness and the conviction that was there along with the trust and complete surrender that with God we can do anything,” Ramos told the American Catholic Tribune. “There's no hope apart from God. We want to keep those core values in our nation, in our families and in our churches.”
Lead by Father Richard Vigoa from St. Augustine Church and sponsored by Coral Gables Knights of Columbus and Women’s Emmaus Groups, the procession will begin and end at Our Lady of Charity National Shrine on South Miami Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 11 beginning at 3 p.m.

“We need a conversion of hearts and we need our shepherds to lead the sheep because a lot of people are at a loss with all the chaos that we're seeing around us,” said Ramos in an interview. “Everybody's concerned because of the pandemic, because of the instability that we're surrounded by and a lot of people genuinely don't know right from wrong. The lines have been blurred for so many years.”
Preceding the procession, Ramos has planned an Hour of Mercy at 3 p.m.
“It’s important right now because there’s a promise by Jesus Christ that where two or more are gathered in his name, he will be present so multiplying that among hundreds and thousands of people simultaneously and we are definitely going to flood the Gates of Heaven with our prayers,” she said.
The Miami procession is among some 30 planned nationwide, including in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, Oct. 4; Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 31; Steubenville, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 3; Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 17; and Atlanta on Saturday, Nov. 7.
“I've invited students from the University of Miami and Florida International University,” she said. “We're trying to get a good representation of the youth by incorporating music, ministry, praise and worship to invoke the Holy Spirit."
For homebound believers, Ramos encourages participation in the Holy Rosary Glorious Mysteries at 4 p.m.
“I want everybody to leave from this rally very spirit-filled,” she said. “We all agreed on this particular site, which is right by the coast because the shrine and sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity is a very significant location for Cuban exiles. The first place a lot of Cuban exiles go when they land in Miami is to the shrine because it represents freedom and liberty.”
Ramos hopes people who come upon the procession will join the short walk as they did in Madison, Wisconsin on Aug.15, where 3,000 people gathered to pray for the unity of the nation. A second procession is planned in Madison on Sunday, Oct. 11.
“This is about a true battle that's going on in the spiritual realm and we need to call for help just like you would call for assistance when you need a doctor or an attorney,” she said. “It’s not just our nation that needs help but our world needs it. We strayed far from biblical truth and we need to realign ourselves with God and purpose.”
