Joseph J. Foy, Ph.D. President | Benedictine University
The Business and Responsibility course at Benedictine University has incorporated a series of guest lectures this semester, focusing on the intersection of ethics, leadership, and interfaith perspectives. The course is taught by Assistant Professor Howard C. Johnson, JD, MBA.
On September 16, Rabbi Label Blotner from the Southeast Valley Jewish Congregation addressed students about how principles rooted in Judaism relate to ethical business conduct. His talk emphasized the relevance of values such as integrity, justice, and stewardship in contemporary business environments.
Another session took place on November 3 with Fr. Kermit Holl, OSC, who serves as Chaplain at Benedictine University's Mesa Campus. Fr. Holl discussed Catholic social teachings and their implications for community engagement and moral leadership in business settings. He shared his personal background as a Minneapolis native and member of the Crozier religious order since 1984.
"His presentation helped students connect ancient principles of integrity, justice, and stewardship with modern business decision making," according to organizers.
Fr. Holl also spoke about his commitment to providing "a fraternal witness to the Gospel’s call to unity and love."
These guest speaker events aimed to help students understand how different faith traditions inform ethical practices in professional life.
