The Archdiocese of Louisville has announced a series of upcoming events and initiatives for the local Catholic community.
On October 1, Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre will celebrate the annual Red Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption, located at 433 S. Fifth Street, at 12:15 p.m. The Red Mass is held to invoke the Holy Spirit upon those working in the legal profession. The event is open to all.
The Marian Committee will hold a First Saturday Devotion on October 4 at St. Ignatius Martyr Church, beginning with Mass at 9 a.m., followed by devotion and reconciliation at 9:30 a.m.
The Archdiocese’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal group is organizing a “prayer and praise gathering” on October 12 at St. Bernard Church, starting at 3 p.m. For more information, Jessica Webster can be contacted via email.
Children from first through twelfth grades are invited to participate in the 74th annual Living Rosary hosted by the Marian Committee on October 5 at St. Michael Church. Registration details are available online.
Other recurring events include monthly meetings by the Secular Franciscans’ St. Joseph Fraternity and activities organized by various Catholic singles groups for different age ranges.
Support services such as Ups & Downs—a group addressing loss, grief, depression, and anxiety—meet monthly at Forest Hills Commons Assisted Living Facility. There is also Nourish for Caregivers, supporting those caring for aging family members; this program meets both in person and via Zoom each month.
The Archdiocese of Louisville Catholic Women’s Conference will take place November 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church with Lisa Cotter as keynote speaker; registration closes October 1.
Epiphany Church will host several events including a free health and wellness fair on October 4 and a men’s retreat titled “Holy Disruption: Turning the World Upside Down” on October 11.
Additional parish activities include turkey suppers, blood drives, appreciation dinners, milestone celebrations such as Father Christopher Gibson’s fiftieth ordination anniversary Mass on October 12 at St. Agnes Church, and an organ recital featuring Dr. Peter Latona on October 3 at Holy Spirit Church.
Catholic Charities continues its call for volunteers in long-term care programs offering companionship or advocacy roles requiring specific training commitments.
A public session called “Coffee and Conversations with Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre and Lisa DeJaco Crutcher, CEO” will be held September 30 to discuss recent developments affecting Catholic Charities’ work in areas like refugee support, food insecurity, human trafficking prevention, emergency assistance, among others.
Educational opportunities include estate planning sessions for women offered by the Office of Mission Advancement; scripture classes from the Ministry Institute; immigration-focused seminars from Bellarmine University’s Veritas Society; Christian meditation courses; Bible studies led by local clergy; and other faith formation programs throughout area churches.
