Rhonda Latty, an alumna of St. John’s University, has been appointed as the new Director of English Language Arts for the Uniondale School District. Dr. Latty brings over 15 years of experience in secondary education to her new role. She has served as an English language arts teacher and summer school coordinator in Uniondale for the past decade and previously worked with the New York City Department of Education.

In addition to her teaching duties, Dr. Latty is a founding adviser for My Sister’s Keeper, a student leadership and empowerment organization. She has also contributed to various district committees and initiatives.

Dr. Latty began her educational career after earning a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education from Temple University in 2010. She received a Master of Science in Education degree in School Building Leadership from St. John’s University in 2013 and completed her Doctor of Education degree in Administration and Supervision at St. John’s in 2020.

Born in Dominica, raised in Queens, New York, and now residing in West Hempstead, Dr. Latty aims to create culturally responsive environments that encourage students to develop literacy skills and confidence as thinkers, writers, and communicators.

“I am honored to step into this new role, where I can continue to impact students and teachers—just as St. John’s has impacted me,” Dr. Latty said.
