Community events offer worship services, support groups, education sessions across Louisville parishes

A series of community and faith-based events have been scheduled in the Louisville area over the coming weeks, offering support, worship, education, and networking opportunities for various groups.

A Mass dedicated to those who have lost a loved one to suicide will take place on September 17 at 7 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Fr. Philip Erickson is set to be the celebrant. Deacon Stephen Bowling from the Office of Family and Life Ministries is available for further information.

The Young Catholic Professionals Louisville Chapter, in collaboration with the Office of Youth and Young Adults, will host a Young Adult Mass and Community Networking Fair on October 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption. The event includes food and drinks at no cost; registration details are available at ycplouisville.org.

For families with special needs children, a Special Disciples of Jesus Mass is scheduled for September 21 at 3 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, followed by a light reception.

Families mourning an infant loss can attend an Infant Prayer Service on September 24 in Calvary Cemetery’s Holy Innocents Section, continuing its monthly tradition on the last Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

A Mass of Remembrance for those grieving a child’s death will be held November 15 at St. Louis Bertrand Church, sponsored by Red Bird Ministries Grief Group and the archdiocese’s Office of Family and Life Ministries.

Young professionals are invited to an executive panel discussion titled “Meet the YCP Louisville Board” on September 16 at 6 p.m., located at 500 West Jefferson Street; registration is through ycplouisville.org.

The St. Serra Club will hold its next luncheon meeting on September 15 featuring speakers Garry Burry and John Sohl; more information can be obtained from Chuck Lynch.

Other upcoming gatherings include:

- A meeting of Benedictine Oblates with Dr. Beverly Weinhold discussing spiritual direction.

- A discernment weekend for single Catholic men interested in monastic life hosted by Benedictine Monks of St. Meinrad Archabbey.

- Regular support group meetings such as Hope and Healing Grief Group (third Wednesdays), Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (Sundays), and NAMI family support (third Sundays) held across several churches.

- ArchLou’s Great Novena hosting a Year of Wonder Hike at Abbey of Gethsemani on October 4 (details: greatnovena.org/community/events).

- A card party organized by Most Blessed Sacrament Church’s Ladies Altar Society on September 28.

- MountFest: Art, Music and Food Festival occurring September 20 in Mount St. Francis, Indiana.

- The Heartland Harp Ensemble performing free public concert at Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx on September 16.

Catholic Charities has announced volunteer opportunities across several areas; more details are provided online or via Debbie Belt with contact information supplied.

Educational programs are also being offered:

- Bible study led by Father Joe Rankin focusing on themes related to poverty.

- Three upcoming classes through Archdiocese Ministry Institute requiring pre-registration due to limited space.

- A six-session virtual series titled “Be Amazed: Path to God” presented by Deacon Pat Harris via Zoom starting early September.

- Nazareth Home’s Community Education Series introducing new technology for balance and mobility during their next session later this month.
