Benedictine University in Mesa has formed a new partnership with Plunge Chill to provide student-athletes with improved recovery options. The initiative was led by Angie Moreno, the 2025-26 Student Athlete Advisory Committee President and senior basketball player, who identified the need for better access to ice baths on campus.

According to Benedictine University officials, supporting student-athletes extends beyond academics and athletics into their health and overall well-being. Cold plunges, or cold-water immersion, are widely used by athletes as a recovery method. Research indicates that brief exposure to cold water can help reduce inflammation, relieve sore muscles, boost circulation, and improve mental clarity. Additional reported benefits include improved mood, sleep quality, energy levels, and cardiovascular health.

The university’s partnership brings Plunge Chill’s professional-grade equipment directly to campus. These systems offer precise temperature control and built-in safety features for clean water and reliable operation after practices or games.

"With the introduction of Plunge Chill’s cold plunge systems, our student-athletes now have access to the same recovery methods trusted by professional teams worldwide," said university representatives in a statement. "After tough practices, long tournaments, or preseason conditioning, athletes can take advantage of ice baths to bounce back quicker, sharpen focus, and prepare for the next challenge."

Officials also stated that this partnership aims not only at physical recovery but also at teaching discipline and self-care among athletes. As Benedictine University expands its athletic programs—including launching a new flag football team—the institution is committed to providing resources that promote balance and mental health.

Plunge Chill was founded in 2020 by Sarah and James with a mission to make cold therapy accessible to all types of users—from professional athletes to everyday wellness seekers.

Benedictine University Mesa plans to highlight athlete experiences with cold therapy throughout the coming season.
