Chris Englert, Interim President | Christian Brothers University
Christian Brothers University (CBU) has been included in the 2026 Forbes “America’s Top Colleges” list, ranking #456 nationally. The university is one of only ten institutions from Tennessee to be featured.
Forbes assesses colleges based on criteria such as return on investment, average student debt, and graduate outcomes. CBU Interim President Brother Chris commented on the recognition: “Our commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers and lives of service is at the heart of our Lasallian mission, and this ranking highlights the impact of that promise.”
According to data provided by CBU, 98% of its graduates are either employed or enrolled in graduate school within six to twelve months after graduation. This figure is significantly higher than the national average of approximately 65%.
CBU attributes these outcomes to its career preparation initiatives. Employers regularly visit campus for recruiting events, and all students are guaranteed an internship through the Academic Internship Program, with about 85% completing one before graduating. Externships are available for first- and second-year students to explore career options, while networking events connect students with employers from various industries.
A CBU alumnus said: “CBU prepared me to thrive in my career while staying connected to the Memphis community I love. The University not only gave me the skills to succeed but also the opportunities to build a future right here at home.”
The university offers a career planning course for credit—unique in its area—and provides ongoing career coaching services free of charge for alumni. Alumni are actively involved in mentoring and recruiting current students. Additionally, about 70% of CBU graduates remain in Memphis after graduation, contributing to the local workforce and economy.
