Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez | Archdiocese of Philedelphia
Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has called on bishops across the United States to consider holding a voluntary special collection in their dioceses to aid humanitarian relief and pastoral support efforts in Gaza and the Middle East.
In a letter addressed to his fellow bishops, Archbishop Broglio said, “The situation in Gaza and across the Middle East cries out for the assistance of the Catholic community of the United States.” He encouraged dioceses that are able to participate in this effort, which will support Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA). Both organizations have established partnerships with local churches in the region, enabling them to respond quickly and efficiently.
CRS and CNEWA are recognized for their ongoing work providing humanitarian aid and supporting church-based initiatives throughout areas affected by conflict in the Middle East.
