Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. Bishop | Archdiocese of Louisville

A new chapel has been established at the Maloney Center, located at 1200 S. Shelby St., to provide a dedicated space for staff and those who serve in the building. The Chapel of Sts. Martha, Mary and Lazarus, which accommodates about 16 people, features a small altar, an ambo, and portraits of its patron saints.

The chapel was blessed on July 31 by Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre. The Maloney Center is among several buildings in Louisville that house agency offices for the Archdiocese of Louisville and offer space for formation classes and gatherings.

Dr. F. DeKarlos Blackmon, vice chancellor for pastoral services for the archdiocese, described the purpose of the new chapel: “The new chapel, dedicated to Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, is designed to serve as a space for reflection and spiritual engagement for years to come."

Blackmon also commented on its design: “The simplistic beauty of this chapel aims to inspire our staff members toward inner beauty and dedication to the pastoral mission of the Church.”

He further explained that the chapel’s intent goes beyond providing a place for prayer: "While it serves as a space for prayer and contemplation, its purpose also encourages the staff to demonstrate our values through action, communication, and generosity within and beyond the use of the chapel.”
