Catholic Community Services (CCS), which operates under Catholic Charities of Philadelphia, will hold its annual community giveaway event on August 9, 2025. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Max Myers Recreation Center in Northeast Philadelphia.

During the event, CCS staff and volunteers plan to distribute 300 school bags filled with supplies such as notebooks, pens, pencils, and crayons to children ahead of the new school year.

The initiative is part of Cradles to Crayons’ “Ready for Learning” campaign. This program works to provide backpacks, school supplies, and clothing to children experiencing poverty or homelessness through partnerships in several regions including Massachusetts, Chicagoland, and the Philadelphia Tri-State area. Cradles to Crayons is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing children's clothing insecurity through service partners across these regions. More about their work can be found at https://www.cradlestocrayons.org/.

CCS serves as Community Umbrella Agency #4 for the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (DHS), supporting dependent children and families in Northeast Philadelphia. As an independent program under the Youth Services Division of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia, CCS offers community engagement initiatives, prevention services, and case management that were previously managed by DHS.
