The University of Dallas has announced the passing of Nettie Baker, Associate Librarian Emerita. Baker passed away last month after a long and distinguished career with the university.
Baker joined the University of Dallas in 1969 as a cataloging librarian. Over her 49-year tenure, she served in various roles including associate director, director, and associate dean. As library director, she spearheaded significant renovations and technological improvements to better serve students and faculty.
President Jonathan J. Sanford, PhD, commented on her contributions: “Throughout her career at UDallas, Nettie worked tirelessly, innovatively, generously and caringly to advance the education of our students, to promote shared governance through her many years on the faculty senate and other institutional committees, and to encourage excellence at other universities through her many years serving on Southern Association of Colleges and Schools review teams.”
Sanford further noted Baker's dedication to helping others: “Nettie was a friend to everyone, quick with a kind word, and always willing to go the extra mile to help students, faculty and staff. Though she retired in 2018, Nettie’s contributions to the library remain — certainly in the resources and services available, but most especially in the culture of service and care so evident in our library.”
The university invites those who knew Baker to join them in praying for her soul and offering comfort to her loved ones.
