Iona University recently celebrated the talent and creativity of its student filmmakers with its first-ever film festival. The event showcased a range of documentaries, music videos, and narrative shorts, all vying for recognition across various categories.
The festival was organized by Professor Jaime Iglehart Frasson, a clinical lecturer in the Media & Strategic Communication Department. It aimed to celebrate student achievements and artistic expression both within and beyond the classroom.
“This festival was a culmination of year-long film classes, critiques, problem solving and watching every student work through all that it takes to make a film,” said Frasson.
A panel of guest judges from the fields of film production, media, and academia participated in the selection process. Ribeiro commented on his experience as a judge: “Deliberating as a judge was a wonderful experience,” he said. “Everybody wanted to see the right people get the award, but also, everybody thought what we saw, each and every one of those films, was excellent. Well done to all who participated.”
One of this year's winners, Elizabeth Riccio ’26, expressed her enthusiasm about the event: "an amazing and inspiring day. I definitely know there are some filmmakers here I’m going to pick their brain for my next piece.”
The next Iona University Film Festival is scheduled for the end of Spring Semester 2026. Submissions will open in January 2026.
