Bishop Thomas John Paprocki | Diocese of Springfield
On June 21, women from the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois were recognized at the 13th annual Our Lady of Good Counsel Women of Distinction Award Ceremony. The event, organized by the Springfield Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (SDCCW), began with a Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield, followed by a luncheon banquet at the Crowne Plaza.
Each year, parishes within the diocese select one woman to represent their community. These women are acknowledged during Mass and receive their awards. Deb Pilapil, president of the Springfield in Illinois Deanery, CCW, noted that these honorees "go above and beyond" normal expectations and are deeply involved in parish activities.
“You will also find these faith-filled women cleaning the churches, helping to beautify the grounds, and decorating for all the holidays throughout the Liturgical Year,” Pilapil stated. “These ladies are truly dedicated to their parishes.”
Bishop Thomas John Paprocki led the Mass alongside Father Allen Kemme and other priests. Pilapil emphasized that these women maintain strong devotion to Jesus and Mary and contribute significantly to various community organizations.
Four recent high school graduates were also honored for receiving SDCCW scholarships for their commitment to living out Catholic values. They included Hildi Niemerg from St. Isidore Parish in Effingham County, Anna Thies from Sacred Heart Parish in Effingham, Addison Paige Pranger from St. Francis Xavier Parish in Jerseyville, and Jenna Fraley from St. Anselm Church in Kampsville.
The ceremony highlighted numerous Women of Distinction across different deaneries within the diocese.
