The U.S. Supreme Court has delivered a significant ruling in the case of Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, allowing states like South Carolina to cease funding large abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood through their Medicaid programs. This decision is seen as a step towards preventing taxpayer money from supporting the abortion industry.

South Carolina's victory is considered a notable advancement for those opposing taxpayer-funded support of abortion services. It also highlights potential nationwide implications if Congress passes legislation aimed at defunding major abortion providers via budget reconciliation. While policies like the Hyde Amendment restrict federal funds from being used for most abortions, organizations such as Planned Parenthood still receive substantial taxpayer contributions annually.

The Charlotte Lozier Institute, affiliated with SBA Pro-Life America, contributed an amicus brief in this case that argues Planned Parenthood prioritizes expanding its share of the abortion market over providing health care services. The organization reported performing over 400,000 abortions in one year while receiving nearly $800 million in taxpayer funding.

Katie Daniel, Director of Legal Affairs and Policy Counsel at SBA Pro-Life America, praised the Supreme Court's decision. Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of SBA Pro-Life America, also celebrated the ruling.

Earlier this year, the South Carolina GOP criticized Planned Parenthood for relying heavily on taxpayer revenue—nearly 40% of its income—while continuing to seek more public funds and invest millions into political campaigns promoting its pro-abortion stance.

SBA Pro-Life America and over 150 pro-life groups are actively lobbying Congress to remove funding from what they term the "Big Abortion" industry through budget reconciliation measures. Recently, more than 350 grassroots activists visited Capitol Hill to engage with congressional offices about this issue.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America represents over one million pro-life Americans nationwide and focuses on electing leaders who advocate for life-saving laws and promoting women leaders within the pro-life movement.
