The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Indiana, have re-elected Sister Anita Louise Lowe to serve a second term as prioress. Her installation took place on June 13.
Sister Lowe, originally from Louisville, has held various roles within the community prior to her position as prioress. She has experience teaching English and French and has served as assistant director of communications, public relations manager, assistant director of vocations, director of vocations, and liturgist at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand.
Her first term as prioress began in 2019. Sister Lowe is also known for her musical talent, particularly playing the harp.
Before the election, the sisters engaged in a discernment process that involved prayer and developing direction statements to guide their priorities in the coming years.
The congregation consists of over 95 members, making it one of the largest Benedictine communities for women in the United States. The Sisters serve in various capacities including teaching, social work, parish ministry, counseling, nursing, librarianship, youth ministry, and chaplaincy.
