St. John's University's Tobin College of Business participated in the 10th annual Business Analytics Competition at Manhattan University from May 19-21, following their first-place finish in 2024. Eight students from St. John's competed, with one team advancing to the final round and securing third place.
The team consisted of senior Brianna Garrison and juniors Jeondo Lee, Joella Paccione, and Alina Malakhova, guided by Assistant Professor Michael Herley. Herley was recently honored as "Teacher of the Year" for Tobin College of Business.
This is the second year in a row that a Tobin team has performed well in this competition. Last year, they achieved a first-place finish and won the Best Poster award. St. John's University remains the only institution to consistently place in the top three over these two years.
Assistant Professor Michael Herley remarked on his team's performance: “This group demonstrated exceptional analytical skills, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition.” He added that they impressed both industry judges and peers with their innovative analysis.
Paul F. Thompson, a judge and vice president at DXC Technology, noted: “St. Johns brought two outstanding teams to the competition this year... Your teams are a real credit to St. Johns and to (Mike Herley’s) leadership.”
Looking ahead, Professor Herley expressed optimism about future competitions: “We will use these results as fertilizer to grow even stronger and come back better next year! We couldn't be prouder of our students and their outstanding accomplishment!”
