Over 183 pro-life legislators from 49 states have appealed to Congress to halt the allocation of American tax dollars to the abortion industry. These legislators, part of the National Pro-Life Leaders Network, addressed a letter to congressional leaders including Leader John Thune, Speaker Mike Johnson, Sen. Mike Crapo, and Rep. Brett Guthrie. They urged the inclusion of a measure to defund Planned Parenthood and similar organizations in an upcoming budget reconciliation bill.
The letter highlights concerns over Planned Parenthood's practices and its receipt of taxpayer funding. According to their annual report, Planned Parenthood performed nearly 400,000 abortions while receiving close to $700 million in taxpayer money within one year.
Pennsylvania State Rep. Kathy Rapp criticized Planned Parenthood for providing substandard care and emphasized that Medicaid recipients deserve better services than those offered by the organization. She stated that community health clinics could serve women more effectively.
Florida State Rep. Jennifer Canady also signed the letter, pointing out that over one million abortions occurred last year in the U.S., with taxpayers subsidizing what she described as "the leading cause of death."
Planned Parenthood has reportedly reduced its non-abortion services since 2010 despite a 43% increase in taxpayer funding during this period.
The initiative is supported by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, which aims to end abortion through political advocacy and legislation.
