The Serra Club of Lincoln has announced the recipients of its essay contest scholarships. These scholarships were awarded to eighth-grade students from Catholic schools who submitted essays reflecting on the theme "Pilgrims of Hope," inspired by Pope Francis’ call for Catholics to embody hope.

Winners were honored during a luncheon held by the Serra Club on April 4. Ava Lowrey, a student from St. Teresa School in Lincoln, received a $1,000 scholarship, securing first place in the contest. Charley Cary of Blessed Sacrament School secured second place and a $500 scholarship, while Dani Davis from St. Michael School took third place, earning a $250 scholarship.

The essay contest is part of the Serra Club’s mission to support vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Each year, the contest invites participation from eighth-grade students from Catholic schools in the area. This year, over 200 students participated, sharing personal reflections and experiences on hope.

Certificates for fourth, fifth, and sixth places were awarded to Blaise Beauclair of St. Teresa, Frannie Matthes of St. Joseph, and Elijah Heftie of Cathedral, recognizing their contributions to the contest.

The Serra Club is comprised of Catholic men actively involved in their parishes, who not only encourage religious vocations but also promote service through education.
