Tristan Henthorn's commitment to the sciences and public service has been shaped by personal influences and academic experiences at Christian Brothers University (CBU). Initially unsure of his focus, the Lasallian Fellow was inspired by Dr. Lyndsey M. Pierson, the Dean of the Department of Biology, whose passion for teaching ignited his interest in biology.
“She was very knowledgeable in the course and passionate about being with students,” Tristan stated, indicating the impact of Dr. Pierson on his education. Tristan is now poised to graduate with a bachelor's degree in biology and plans to pursue a career in healthcare, particularly in neurology and research. This decision was shaped by personal experiences during his father's illness and interactions with the medical professionals involved.
“I saw the impact that illness had on my family and how great care can help a family work through it,” he reflected, underscoring his desire to contribute to healthcare.
In 2024, Tristan founded the Aspiring Physicians of CBU to support pre-med students by organizing speaker sessions on topics facing the medical community. Notable discussions include addressing shortages of primary care physicians and practical workshops like suturing.
Dr. Pierson acknowledged Tristan’s contribution to the community, stating, “He embodies each of the Lasallian values in his learning and his leadership on campus.” She praised his intelligence, dedication, and positive influence on the campus community.
Originally from Olive Branch, Mississippi, Tristan had familial ties to CBU, which influenced his decision to attend. His involvement with the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity helped develop his leadership skills, culminating in his role as president and philanthropy chair, where he helped raise significant funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“Tristan is an impact player—always wanting to leave things better than he found them,” said Wilson Phillips, Administrative Coordinator in Student Affairs. Phillips commented on Tristan's contributions, noting his growth in self-awareness and purpose throughout his time at CBU.
Tristan’s contributions have been recognized as one of the five seniors named to the Lasallian Fellows Class of 2025, an accolade awarded to those who embody the university's core values.
